Mandela was a Terrorist, Remember?
I have no internet access at the moment for some unknown reason and won't until they check it out in a week. In a library now. Lots of news out of the Middle East lately. Y'know, if South Africa would have had a lobby like Israel does, they would still have apartheid. ANC/Hamas, same Motherfucking thing. US, who hates the Palestinians (The Kaffir of Israel) for some reason, of course is one sided in the debate. I was in a country bordering South Africa during Apartheid and knew white South Africans. The shit they would say is exactly the same way Israel speaks of their majority "problem". Little wonder they were such great allies during that time. We want Democracy for all nations except when it does not coincide with our highly pro Israel bias. Juan Cole has the shit down pat, and will explain in a non enraged way, like I cannot do. 5000 Palestinians killed since 2001, 1.5 million Gazans denied medical care, food, or any sort of sensible living conditions. Collective punishment, is that legal? Hebron settlers attacking unarmed and innocent Palestinians. Fuck that shit. I don't want to hear shit about rocket attacks that have killed, at most, 50 Israelis since the second Intifada. If one had any sense of history they would see that crushing a civilian population is not the way to go. But Israel has not learned well from their past oppressors. Or maybe too well. Hopefully, someday we as a society can have a meaningful discussion about this without all of the usual cowardly canards thrown up meant to block debate.

Love the "100 Miles and Runnin'" video. I have so much nostalgia for the NWA sound. Modern rap is a producer's game in most cases (see Kanye) and while Dre was obviously a great producer he kept the raps up front where they belong. Plus I don't think he would ever use the Peter Frampton voice modulator.
Anyway, I was totally shocked to see the part in the video with the transvestite. Shocking because of the total homophobia of rap in general and the members of NWA in particular. It was shocking that when the lady was revealed as a dude he didn't get comically pistol whipped.
Anyway: how about talking about the apartheid that exists in the African American community with respect to gays/lesbians?

When you finally get around to ending your occupation of this country that belongs to the Native Americans are you going to go back to Africa or Europe? Since you're bi-racial you at least have a lot of options.
Or does slavery experienced by some of your ancestors on one side give you some sort of magical resistance to guilt in the appropriation of lands?

1. I know I have an annoying habit of using analogies and comparisons wherever I can. But if the shoe fits.... I am not one to have that meaningful conversation, obviously. As I wrote at the time I was speaking emotionally to the matter, not intellectually. I believe I linked to a more sober response. Because my first statement is incongruous to my last is the first any less true? Why does Israel get to practice apartheid on Palestinians and expect that to hold up without repercussions? Because of the Holocaust? Two wrongs and all that...
2. That song still holds up now. It is pathetic that rap has essentially become pop, as much as I think Kanye is pretty cool. The bigotry amongst blacks is shameful, but if that is in regards to the vote in California, that has been shown to be a false assertion that borders on the same stupidity, no matter what Andrew Sullivan may say. It is not a big secret of what I think of clergy and their destructive tendencies regardless of race. That bigotry obviously is a large reason for the appalling number of HIV/AIDS that is still epidemic in that community.
3. I did not know our foreign policy was one based on guilt. One half of my ancestors were brought here against their will, which is what you were saying. The other side, ok, that was wrong and Native Americans still are suffering the consequences of being subsumed. So, because we did it, it's ok in the territories? It worked wonders for our native population. The methods of subjugation were a little different in the 1500's to 1930's vis-a-vis colonization. Also what was thought of as humane behaviour. So, because we really fucked up, let's let Israel, who does nothing for us strategically, do the same. And don't dare criticize because we are disqualified due to our treatment of native populations? Not care about treating their native population, who can never be full citizens of a Jewish state, like at best 2nd class citizens? And when did I say anything about Israeli's leaving their defined borders? Pre-'67 borders. Poof. Here's your rabbit.
4. Tebow is going to be one heck of an H-Back. Psycho T. should keep sitting out those games against players that have outplayed him as he did earlier this season.

First, you may note that I said nothing to contradict your basic premise that the situation in Palestine/Israel region is essentially a form of apartheid. I just wanted to rattle off a number of issues much closer to home in the most annoying way possible. Also, guilt as I used it was not in the emotional sense, it was in the legal sense. Meaning we stole these lands, now we got to go.
Second, I was kidding about Tebow. But Hansbrough is the 2nd best evah!
